INTRODUCTION TO HEALTH INFORMATION AND THE HEALTHCARE RECORD

Catalog description

This course introduces the health information profession and the basic functions, content, and structure of the healthcare record. Various aspects related to health record documentation guidelines and standards are explored as well as the influence of accreditation and regulatory bodies. Students will gain a basic understanding of departmental functions such as filing and numbering methods, records management, retention guidelines, storage, and forms design as well as paper and electron ic medical record systems management. Students will also examine health information processes and relationships among organizational departments and healthcare providers.
