Catalog description
This course provides instruction on preventative dentistry including hard and soft deposits, stains, oral hygiene instructions, plaque indices, fluorides, sealants, tooth brushing techniques, flossing, dentifrices, mouth washes, oral hygiene aids and the oral hygiene needs to special care patients. Nutrition as it relates to dental care is also included in this course. Emphasis is placed on personal and patient oral hygiene skills development. Basic concepts regarding pharmacology and pharmaceutic preparati ons in dentistry are also covered. Chemical and physical properties, action, dose, methods of administration, therapeutic usage, side effects, indications, contraindications for pharmaceutic preparations in dentistry. Additionally, this course is designed to instruct the student in chairside assisting and charting to prepare the student to effectively assist in all types of treatment.
