Freshman Fictions

Catalog description

This course invites students to explore the diverse experiences of the first year in college through fiction and creative storytelling across various formats, including prose fiction, graphic novels, podcasts, films, TV shows, songs, and plays. Throughout the semester, sessions will alternate between analyzing selected works of fiction and participating in creative workshops. During discussion sessions, students will examine how different media reflect and shape narratives about college life, from the challenges of new environments to personal growth. In workshop sessions, students will have the opportunity to share and workshop their own creative endeavors, inspired by either personal experiences or imagination. By the end of the course, students will have developed a deeper understanding of the role fiction plays in interpreting formative life experiences and will have produced their own creative works reflecting a personal or imagined first-year journey.
