Catalog description

This course defines the position and responsibilities of a Stage Manager with a focus on live dance and opera production. From job search to post-mortem this course seeks to prepare students for participation in the production process as a stage manager for all forms of live dance and opera performance. Topic will include vocabulary necessary for communicating with choreographers, conductors, music directors and dancers, an introduction to counting & reading music, libretto and score analysis, production scheduling, communicating and organizing meetings with dance and opera production teams, cue-calling for dance and opera, safety concerns and union requirements for the purpose of fostering a safe and collaborative work environment.
