Latinx Migrations and Diasporas

Catalog description

This class explores the concepts of migrations and diasporas from Latin America into the United States through literature and popular culture. We will read about the different migrant groups from Latin America (Puerto Rican, Mexican, Dominican, Cuban, Central American), the circumstances that drive their migration, the commonalities and differences between them, and the consolidation of shared Latinx identity in the United States. We will study novels, poetry, films, radio, and music that expands our understanding of migration, which is one of the most urgent yet misrepresented political issues of our time.
