Catalog description
This course is an introduction to the practice and theory of qualitative methods with a specific focus on interviews and ethnographic observations. Participants will discuss and engage in the different stages of a qualitative research project, including formulating research questions, choosing field sites and participants, doing ethnographic observations and in-depth interviews, transcribing notes and writing memos, analyzing data, and writing up the results. Students will pursue their research agendas and will actively collect and analyze qualitative data through the term. The objective of the course is to prepare participants to conduct and write-up rigorous qualitative studies.
