Sociology of Fraud & White-Collar Crime

Catalog description

This seminar is an exploration of sociological research and theories of fraud and white-collar crime, as well as of several key research areas adjacent to them, such as the sociologies of: secrecy and deception; ignorance; trust; and professions/expertise, among others. This course will give you a firm basis for grasping what is, and what is not, unique to fraud and white-collar crime, relative to other forms of wrongdoing. Moreover, it will allow you to analytically relate these phenomena to such sociological concepts as class, capitalism, commerce, and regulation.
