Forensic Criminology

Catalog description

This course will introduce students to the field of forensic criminology which is the application of criminological knowledge, methods, and theories to legal matters in the criminal and civil court system. Forensic criminologists conduct scientific research and investigation, offer testimony before governmental bodies, serve as consultants in the court system, and help develop policies and legislative initiatives. The course will address socio-legal questions and problems related to the following areas: premises liability and inadequate/negligent security, organizational negligence and vicarious liability, workplace violence, active assailants and mass shooting events, serial killings and mitigating evidence, wrongful conviction litigation, and police and corrections litigation.
