SOCI 1070
An Introduction to Sociology through Campus Culture
Tulane University of Louisiana · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
This course introduces students to sociology via an exploration of collegiate hookup culture. Sex in college is an outcome of specific historical forces; it is governed by social constructs, cultural discourses, and sexual scripts; and it is organized according to contemporary intersectional social identities, including but not limited to sexualities. Hookup cultures also occur within distinct organizations and manifest unique sexual scenes. Pleasures and dangers abound, requiring considerations of sexual violence and the nature of pleasure and liberation. All these themes will be explored as they pertain to sex in college generally and at Tulane specifically.
