Catalog description

The purpose of this course is to gain an in-depth understanding of the origins, evolution, and characteristics of international development since the end of World War II, both in terms of formulation and implementation. We examine what beliefs underlay various approaches, what structures and events have influenced those ideas, how governments and institutions have operated, and how differing approaches have succeeded or failed. The course is organized by decade along the following themes: international political and economic context, development theories and strategies, policies and programs, performance and trends.
