This course explores the role of social movement organizations and public interest groups in the U.S. policymaking process. In particular, we focus on the challenges that activists and organizers face when it comes to influencing the public policy agenda as well as public policy outcomes. We explore how social movements and public interest groups might work to overcome these obstacles and the tradeoffs they face in doing so.
