An examination of the historical roots of analytic philosophy, from about 1890-1950. Questions include: How did analytic philosophy arise from the background monistic idealism near the start of the 20th century? What are the enduring insights, contributions, and ideas of the early analytic philosophers - on topics in metaphysics, epistemology, and ethics, and concerning the very nature of philosophical inquiry?
