Catalog description

PAEN 1200 builds on the skills developed in PAEN 1100 , focusing on research-based writing and sustained academic argument. Similar to PAEN 1100 , students engage in multiple drafting and revision cycles, provide and respond to peer feedback, and adapt their writing for different audiences, genres, and formats. This course, however, places a stronger emphasis on advanced research strategies, source evaluation, and effective integration of evidence using MLA style. Students hone critical reading skills and apply critical theories as lenses to texts in order to contextualize them within broader field discussions. Students subsequently apply these analytical skills to their own work in order to develop original claims in conversation with other critical thinkers -- developing well-structured, persuasive arguments adapted to professional, academic, and community contexts.
