Listening to Music

Catalog description

This introductory course is designed for students with no previous knowledge or experience of music. Our culture has been visually-oriented for the last few centuries. We trust our eyes in a way we would never trust our ears. This class is for you to learn how to hear more and how to hear better. Class repertory is a historical mix of music in the European classical tradition, non-Western musics, and popular music. Some topics include music and gender, music and politics, and music and dance. Apt for first-year students.
