Catalog description

This course, the second in the Landscape Architecture and Engineering Design Media sequence, introduces students to the critical relationships between mapping, data visualization, and landscape systems, with particular emphasis on clearly and comprehensively representing landform and hydrological analysis. Through an examination of both historical and contemporary applications of geospatial systems and associative/generative modeling, students will develop a sophisticated understanding of how information and representation shape our interpretation of scale, projection, and territory in landscape architecture. Beginning with a series of ArcGIS Pro workshops, students will progress from fundamental mapping concepts in ArcGIS Pro to more advanced terrain modelling workflows and analyses of vector and raster data sets. Building on this technical foundation, students will undertake four progressive projects that apply these tools to real-world landscape analysis and design challenges.
