Catalog description

This course traces the history of modern landscape architecture of the 20th century through a series of landscape responses to social, political, and environmental challenges. Organized chronologically, the course examines how landscape practices have shifted in emphasis over time—from urban parks and park systems, to national conservation and territorial management, to suburban expansion and infrastructure, to social reform, modernism and technological change, ecological planning, post-industrial repair, and contemporary climate and planetary concerns.
