ITAL 4520
Cinema neorealista italiano
Tulane University of Louisiana · UGRD · Fall 2026
1 section
Catalog description
A thorough study of Italian neorealist cinema, which at the end of WWII exposed Italy’s harsh social and conditions during the war and immediate postwar years. Moving across the movement's historical stages, from precursors in the 1930s, to ‘40s classics, to its legacy in the ‘50s and ‘60s, the course considers the term “neorealism” in its complexity, addressing its “myths,” affinities with traditions that it opposed such as Fascist cinema and Hollywood, and its modernist dimension. Films by Rossellini, De Sica, Visconti, De Santis, Fellini, Pasolini, among others.
