Catalog description

A historical overview of the evolution of Italian cinema focusing on its moments of significant international recognition: silent era; neorealism; postwar popular genre; auteur cinema; “new Italian cinema.” Films are discussed with respect to various critical factors: Italian history and politics, major trends in film theory, influence of classical Hollywood cinema, the relationship between film and literature, gender and sexuality, migration. Lectures in English, reading/writing in Italian.
