An in-depth exploration of the relationship between Italian cuisine and cultural heritage, examining how food has shaped and reflected Italian identity across regions, communities, and historical periods. Through an analysis of culinary traditions, regional ingredients, and diverse historical influences, students gain a nuanced understanding of the social and cultural contexts in which Italian food practices developed and continue to evolve. Special attention given to the role of food in rituals, celebrations, and daily life, as well as to the ways in which Italian cuisine has influenced—and been influenced by—global exchanges. Students cultivate an appreciation for the cultural significance of food in shaping identity and community, while also critically analyzing the regional diversity and contemporary transformations of Italian gastronomy.
