Reproductive Health & Justice in the US

Catalog description

This course, taught by a historian and a professor of public health, will explore the history of reproductive health and movements for reproductive justice in the US. Students will read scholarly books and articles, memoirs, and watch films about Americans’ encounters with gynecology, midwifery and obstetrics, and abortion. Students will have opportunities to engage with medical practitioners, activists, and scholars. Students will learn about the history of OB/GYN care, legal and illegal birth control and abortion practices, and the mobilization of the anti-abortion and pro-choice movements.
