Understanding pathways linking social and structural determinants of health to epidemic outcomes is essential for designing interventions that work in real-world settings. Using HIV as the anchor condition, this course examines determinants and pathways such as stigma, institutional trust, gender, structural racism, and social capital and networks, including the theory behind them and related public health interventions. Comparative examples from Ebola, COVID-19, and measles illustrate how these forces operate across epidemic contexts and how they inform intervention design. The course combines readings, applied group activities, and a final project that moves from conceptual models to practical program and policy solutions.
