Catalog description

This course explores the legal and ethics issues encountered by health care professionals in the U.S. health care system. Topics included: basic tort principles, liability of health care professionals and organizations, government regulation of health care providers, common law and statutory duties to treat, informed consent, fraud and abuse, governance issues for health care organizations, corporate compliance, basic contract principles, tax exemption, antitrust and ethics. Students learn to recognize potential legal problems in various health care settings and identify and analyze the legal/ethical issues and rights that are implicated.
