Transnational Feminism: Decoloniality, Feminist Solidarity, and Global Power

This seminar examines transnational and decolonial feminist theory, exploring how colonialism, capitalism, and global power relations structure feminist knowledge, political struggle, and everyday life. Through intensive engagement with Global South and women-of-color feminist scholarship, students interrogate dominant genealogies of feminism, critique hierarchical regimes of knowledge production, and analyze how gendered, racialized, and economic processes are interconnected across multiple geographic, historical, and institutional contexts. The course investigates diverse feminist problem-spaces—including labor and commodity circuits, reproductive and care economies, migration and mobility, tourism and desire, and the politics of representation, translation, and refusal—while foregrounding methodology, accountability, and praxis. Students are expected to engage deeply with theory, facilitate collective analysis, and develop research that critically reflects on their positionality within transnational feminist terrains.
