This three credit hour, experiential learning course provides students with unprecedented access to the operational heart of diverse energy enterprises through a series of structured site visits to leading industry facilities on the Gulf Coast. Students will explore the business models, market dynamics, and operational strategies of major energy sectors including deepwater oil and gas production, energy-as-a-service campus management, LNG processing, nuclear power generation, and port-based energy logistics. The curriculum alternates between 90-minute classroom lectures that provide theoretical frameworks and industry context with immersive Friday field experiences at operational sites. Each site visit is structured as a three-phase learning experience: pre-visit lectures establishing business and market context, the guided on-site exploration, and post-visit analytical sessions where students synthesize observations, apply business principles to real-world operations, and develop critical assessments of competitive strategies, operational efficiencies, and market positioning within the broader energy landscape.
