Catalog description

This course is an introduction to reading and writing about poems. With an emphasis on contemporary poetry, we consider how poems think via metaphor, image, formal constraints, sound, pattern, syntax, and so forth; and how to work with the cognitive disorientation of reading lines that resist familiar logics. No prior coursework or experience with poetry is necessary.
