Exposure Assessment

Catalog description

To protect public health, environmental health practitioners must characterize the extent to which people contact chemical, physical or biological hazards in the environments where they live, work and play. Exposure assessment provides critical information about that contact including how much, how often, and to what level people are exposed through inhalation, ingestion, or skin contact. Exposure assessment also includes estimating the number of people exposed and the characteristics that make groups vulnerable to high levels of exposure or place them at higher risk for adverse health effects due to exposure. This course equips students with the knowledge and skills to conduct an exposure assessment, communicate findings and explore recommendations to manage environmental exposures and protect population health. After completing this course, students will be able to apply the exposure assessment process to evaluate existing and novel environmental health hazards.
