Path to Funding

This course is designed to provide learners with the essential knowledge and skills to assist communities with approaches to seeking grant funding. Several key aspects of a grant funding application will be covered, including how to: 1) engage with the community in equitable non-imperialistic ways; 2) identify community needs using scholarly research; 3) target the most appropriate high-probability grant to address those needs; 4) build collaborative partnerships to address those needs; 5) articulate those needs to develop a successful grant application; 6) meet associated grant requirements; 7) critically review and revise a grant application; and finally, 8) pitch your proposal to reviewers (i.e., your instructor and your peers). This class will offer practical skills to learners, who should walk away being able to engage communities appropriately, use knowledge management tools to conduct scholarly research, communicate scientific evidence to lay populations, and find and write grants to increase equity and build resilience. The class will culminate in learners identifying a need in the community and developing a hypothetical grant application that has been used in a real-world scenario to enhance resilience.
