Catalog description

We will explore the relationship between genes, proteins, and traits. We will focus the structure of chromosomes and genes and the processes of transcription and translation. Students will use molecular techniques, like DNA extraction and visualization, protein extraction and visualization, PCR, and DNA sequencing in the laboratory to better understand the relationship between genes and proteins. These techniques will further be used to examine your own genes and to study seafood species on a genetic level and analyze the prevalence of seafood mislabeling. Open to high school students only.
