Catalog description

This class introduces students to the art, archaeology, and history of the Silk Road with the hope of exploring east-west exchanges from 200 BCE to 1400 CE. We will travel through history to trace the Silk Road's opening, flourishing, and decline. Engaging with writings on the Silk Road produced in the early 20th century to the most recent scholarship, students will learn to situate the study of ancient cultural heritage in both colonial and post-colonial contexts.
