This seminar will explore significant achievements in contemporary Swiss architecture focusing primarily on the works of Peter Zumthor and Herzog & de Meuron. The work of other contemporary Swiss architects - Gigon Guyer, Diener & Diener, Bearth & Deplazes, and Gion Caminada among others - will be touched upon in order to demonstrate certain recurring themes and distinguishing variations. By studying a relatively limited number of key buildings and architects, the seminar will engage broader discussions concerning contemporary architectural practice in general. Where helpful or relevant, works of architecture from other settings and time periods will be referenced
