Catalog description
Centered on more than a century of questions about South Asian particularity and universality, this course explores ethnographies, autobiographies, short stories, films, and essays to learn about the study of social life and South Asia. The course guides students through academic worlds aimed at understanding social life marked as South Asian and the people who live and grapple with the region's identity. Students will learn to think about the social divisions and connections at work in South Asia and its diaspora communities, such as politics, kinship, religion, caste, indigeneity, gender, class, sexuality, and urbanity.
