Anthropology of Violence

This course delves into the intricate relationships among violence, memory, trauma, and resiliency across diverse global contexts. Through ethnographies and visual materials on themes such as gendered violence, migration, mass incarceration, the criminalization of social protest, and the aftermath of war, we will analyze the violence continuum existing between “extraordinary” forms of violence—such as massacres and genocides—and more routine, everyday expressions.
