Catalog description

This course offers an exploration into the nature of microorganisms, introducing microbial diversity, the importance of microorganisms to the biosphere, and their roles in human health and disease. Major topics include microbial growth and control, infectious disease and public health, and applications in biotechnology, food production, and bioremediation. By integrating theoretical knowledge with hands-on laboratory experience, this course aims to develop an understanding of microbiology and its applications in science and industry. Designed as a general education, non-majors course. Three hours of lecture per week and four labs per semester.
