Catalog description

By the end of the course, students will give speeches on a variety of academic topics, using PowerPoint presentations with limited notes, identify, and utilize discourse markers, transitional words/phrases, implications, and signal words, engage in formal classroom discussions, read texts aloud to improve fluency, and use Flipgrid once a week for short speaking assignments. They will also listen to a variety of lectures/talks up to 10 minutes in length, take notes and use those notes for tests, summarize and discuss the lectures, Identify fact vs opinion, bias, and author's purpose, and practice listening skills through dictations, cloze, and dictogloss activities.
