Catalog description

This course prepares students for certification as American Red Cross Lifeguards. The course will cover water rescue techniques, CPR/AED, first aid, surveillance, emergency response, and the role of the lifeguard. Students will learn the necessary skills to safely protect patrons in aquatic environments, provide emergency response, and teach others to do the same. A $245 lifeguard and CPR/AED certification fee is required, and participants must pass a swim evaluation in the first week to continue. If unable to pass, the fee will be refunded and the course will be dropped. The course will be held at the Steuben County YMCA, and students must arrange their own transportation.
