This hands-on course provides a comprehensive introduction to the principles and practices of reverse engineering using advanced 3D scanning technologies. Students will explore the entire workflow, from physical object to functional CAD model. Key topics include 3D scanner operation, data acquisition techniques, point cloud processing, mesh editing, and the conversion of scan data into parametric solid models using industry-standard software. The course emphasizes practical applications such as replicating obsolete parts, conducting quality assurance inspections, redesigning components for improved performance, and preparing models for additive or subtractive manufacturing processes. Prerequisite: ETD 233
