Preparation for Professional Practice

Catalog description
This two-credit course addresses essential professional issues students may encounter in level II fieldwork and practice. Students will learn the importance of monitoring and influencing legislation and regulations that guide practice and reimbursement. Students will recognize their role in advocacy and education to support stakeholders’ understanding and recognition of value of the OT role in promoting health. Students will develop individualized professional development plans to support life-long learning outside of the classroom including obtaining and maintaining licensure and registration, specialty certifications, and/or future continuing education opportunities. Students will also learn and apply essential skills of effective communication in inter- and intraprofessional teams. Prerequisites: First, Second and Third-semester courses; Co-requisites: Fourth-semester courses.
