Legal Issues in School Counseling

This course offers a study of legal, ethical, and related professional issues affecting the role and responsibilities of school counselors. Course content and learning experiences will support the ability to demonstrate ethical and culturally responsive be havior and maintain the highest standards of professionalism and legal obligation. Significance will be placed on the legal and ethical issues school counselors will face with varied populations such as Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), I ndividual Education Programs (IEPs), 504 plans, mediation, consultation and collaboration, due process, confidentiality laws, family and student rights, counseling Code of Ethics, and Federal and State laws.
