Catalog description

In this 4-credit course, second year student pharmacists will be introduced to antifungal, antiviral, and antiparasitic drug classes used to manage acute and chronic infections. Basic principles will be covered in medical microbiology, antimicrobial pharmacology, medicinal chemistry, and clinical use. This includes clinical presentation, infectious etiologies, and risk factors. Mechanism of action, metabolism, structure-function relationships, spectrum of activity, adverse effects, possible drug interactions, contradictions, and antimicrobial resistance patterns will be discussed.
