Catalog description

In this 3-credit hour lab course, student pharmacists will gain initial and progressive patient care skills through interactive learning activities such as simulations, hands-on labs, integrated problem-solving activities, discussions, and classroom lectures. In this course, students will practice the skills and professionalism necessary to effectively provide evidence-based patient care. Pharmacy students will utilize the Patient Care Skills course to apply concepts and skills learned in didactic courses t hrough simulation and patient care scenarios. Students will practice professionalism, communication and interviewing skills, drug information skills, basic physical assessment, prescription dispensing techniques, injection techniques, patient counseling, and provide evidence-based patient care based upon sound therapeutic principles. Ultimately, the Patient Care Skills courses will prepare students for their Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPEs) and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPEs).
