This course offers a practicum experience tailored for advanced practice nursing students, focusing on the management of chronic psychiatric conditions across the lifespan in a clinical setting. Students will further develop their skills through hands-on clinical practice under the supervision of qualified preceptors, gradually taking on greater responsibility for providing comprehensive healthcare services to diverse populations. Throughout 225 clinical hours of direct involvement, students will enhance their competencies in core areas of advanced psychiatric nursing practice, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The course also includes seminar discussions that examine the roles and responsibilities of advanced practice nurses, offering a platform to explore the complexities of mental health care, challenges within the healthcare system, and the critical role of patient advocacy.
