Catalog description

This course equips pharmacy students with the requisite knowledge, attitudes, values, and skills set to pursue global health careers upon graduation either on the global stage or with U.S.-based globally oriented organizations which include the key agencies of the US Public Health Service, such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA). The course addresses the many medication-related global health challenges that the pharmacist can use his expertise to provide leadership in addressing such as lack of access to essential medicines, irrational use of medicines, challenges associated with drug donations during national and global disasters, medication safety and quality-related challenges, along with the widespread development of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Specific valuable skills set that are developed in this course include health program/project management, research in global health settings, and the ability to work professionally and successfully in multicultural, multinational, and multidisciplinary teams, reflecting the working environment of the pharmacist in global health career settings.
