This text-based course examines the approaches of a select group of medieval and modern Jewish thinkers to the classical problem of theodicy: How can a good Gd allow for the evil and suffering that human beings experience in the world? Readings will be drawn from Saadya Gaon, Maimonides, the Zohar, and the writings of R. Joseph B. Soloveitchik and R. Eliezer Berkowitz.
