Catalog description

This course expands on previous teachings and will discuss the management of advanced self-limiting conditions providing effective patient education of over the counter (OTC) medications and dietary supplements. Being one of the most accessible health care professionals, pharmacists play a crucial role in self-care, requiring an in-depth knowledge of various disease states and therapies. Therefore, students need to develop advanced skills in patient counseling to ensure patient safety and improved health outcomes. The course covers patient triage, referral skills and wellness interventions in the community setting. Students also complete a practice-based certificate training program through the American Pharmacists Association (APhA), which prepares them to improve medication use through the delivery of Medication Therapy Management (MTM) services in a variety of practice settings.
