Parenterals and Other Sterile Preparations

Catalog description

The course will enable the students to understand the complexity and responsibility when dealing with injectable preparations. The course will discuss this topic from formulation, and safety standpoint as sterility assurance, to appropriate compounding and ensuring correct patient administration. The lab portion will cover extemporaneous compounding of prescriptions, calculating doses/rates for IV admixtures, choosing components, preparing and delivering admixtures. The lab portion will also cover the basic development of injectable formulations.
