Emphasis is placed on the mechanisms of classes of therapeutics traditionally used to combat these disease-inducing microbes. An overview of the immune system is presented emphasizing the complexity and diversity of the immune response, the cells and molecules involved in the immune system, and the drug interventions that are designed to regulate the immune system.
