Catalog description
This course is an academic and literature-based experience meant to create practical links between biomechanical / patho-mechanical theory and clinical experiences. The course is meant to provide the maturing 3rd year student with an opportunity to integrate previous material relating to anatomy, physiology and orthopedic sciences into diagnosis-specific lectures and assignments. The goal of the course is to focus on the assessment, differential diagnoses, and treatment strategies for common orthopedic-podiatric medical complaints. Emphasis will be on the clinical manifestations of disease and practical management of the patient including the therapeutic orthosis prescription. Discussion of “best practices” in orthopedic and sports medicine and problem solving shall dominate the sessions. The course will be given in conjunction with the Orthopedics and Pediatrics Clerkship in a block format to enhance student learning and understanding of concepts presented in this didactic course.
