A two-semester survey of Modern literature from the classical through the modern eras. First-semester readings include: Sophocles, Beowulf, The Song of Roland, Chaucer, Shakespeare, Cervantes, and Molière. Second-semester readings include: the Romantic Poets, Ibsen, Dostoyevsky, Chekhov, Tolstoy, Kafka, Melville, Faulkner, Beckett, Camus and Sartre.
