Catalog description

Any tragedy, especially one of the magnitude of the Holocaust, is always challenging to teach. This course examines methods for teaching about the Holocaust and other difficult histories in developmentally appropriate ways. Highlighted in the course will be the rise of dark tourism and increasing exposure to atrocities on social media. Educators will be empowered to create trauma-safe learning spaces in classrooms and museums while still grappling with disturbing knowledge, artifacts, videos, and images, including firsthand testimony from Holocaust survivors.
