A survey of Jewish ethical writings from post-talmudic to modern times. Authors studied include Maimonides, R. Bahya ibn Pakuda, R. Judah the Pious, R. Jonah Gerondi, R. Moses Luzzatto, and R. Israel Salanter. Emphasis is placed on the role of ethical literature in Jewish intellectual history.
